Qualified Glasgow University 1978
Consultant Anaesthetist, Victoria Infirmary 1989 to present.
I have had a longstanding interest in Medical Education (graduated MPhil in Educational Studies from Glasgow University in 1993) and have been involved in different facets of postgraduate medical education.
Between 1997 and 2007 I had regular commitments to the design, development and delivery of courses at the Scottish Clinical Simulation Centre in Stirling.
I continue to work with colleagues there but have much less of a hands-on role. During this period I also began collaborative work with Professor Flin and her colleagues in the Industrial Psychology Research Centre in the University of Aberdeen and continue to work on Human Factors and anaesthetists.
Since 2005 I have been an Associate Editor of the journal Simulation in Healthcare. I have had a variety of roles with the Royal College of Anaesthetists and currently sit on the Anaesthetist as Educator Committee and am a member of the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia Research Council.
Since 2007 I have been an Associate Dean with NHS Education for Scotland with specific responsibility for the SCOTS group of courses.
Best Regards,
Ronnie Glavin
