Who we are:

The Simulation Center of the University of Florence is a modern educational center dedicated to improving healthcare quality and to guarantee the highest level of patient safety using medical simulation. Our Simulation Center is pursuing the goal of becoming the reference Simulation Center in Italy for Emergency Medicine. Courses for clinicians, nurses and medical students are provided by the Simulation Center.

Our Team:

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Prof. Gian Franco Gensini - Dean of Medical School - Director of Internal Medicine Residency

EDUCATION DIRECTOR
Prof. Riccardo Pini - Associated Professor of Internal Medicine - Director of Emergency Medicine Residency

OFFICE MANAGER
Laura Galli - Logistic and Organizational SecretaryIn collaboration with the Children’s Hospital Boston Simulator (USA), the Centre trained more than 80 facilitators (69 doctors and 16 nurses).

What we are using:

We have adult and baby Laerdal Patient Simulators that can be used to recreate clinical incidents and critical procedures. Elaborate functions are controlled from our adjacent control room, enabling wide ranging educational scenarios to be created and digitally archived.

What we are doing:

We have run the simulation centre since March 2007. In these 3 years we have held more than 320 courses, mainly "crisis resource management (CRM)" with more than 2.400 participants (1950 doctors and 450 nurses).

The center is mainly devoted to:

  • Train students of both medical and nursing schools in performing the most important diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Train residents in Emergency Medicine to the correct management of critically-ill patients
  • Train Emergency Medicine doctors and nurses in the Crisis Resource Management
  • Train the facilitators for either our Faculty and other simulation centers.
