Reflecting on the Social Programme for Poznan 2014

The official opening ceremony of the 20th Anniversary meeting took place in the Adam Meckiewicz University Auditorium, located in a Neo-Renaissance building designed by Edward Furstenau, in the beautiful city of Poznan.

First of all our delegates, exhibitors and guests were given a fascinating talk by Dr Anna Maerker, FRHS, FHEA, Senior Lecturer in the History of Medicine at Kings College, London.  The subject covered by Dr Maerker was "21st Century simulators vs 19th Century models: Is there really a difference?", and we are sure you will agree, the content was stimulating and thought provoking.

Next, guests were treated to a recital of the works of Beethoven by the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra - one of the most famous and widely recognised Polish symphony ensembles.  The outstanding acoustics in the auditorium, together with the note-perfect performance given by the PPO, made sure the recital was truly unforgettable.

On Friday evening, in complete contrast to the surroundings of the night before, guests experienced dinner at the National Museum of Agriculture in Szreniawa village, located on the edge of the National Park of Wielkopolski.

Guests boarded a steam train at the main railway station in Poznan, and were taken 10km south of the city to Szreniawa - a magnificent mode of transport, matched only by the beauty of the Polish landscapes.

On arrival in Szreniawa, guests were welcomed by a traditional folk music group, and the mystic creatures of the ancient legends, before feasting on traditional Polish fare in the open air.

For those who had the energy left, a hike through the beauty and splendour of the National Park of Wielkopolska was arranged for Saturday, with a bonfire, and potato and sausage roasting awaiting guests at the end of their 12km hike!

An altogether magical experience for our guests, highlighting the range of entertainment available to guests in this beautiful city.
