The Surgical and Clinical Skills Centres within the School of Medicine, University of Dundee come together as the Dundee Institute of Healthcare Simulation (DIHS) capitalising on their combined expertise and experience of providing simulation-based medical education spanning almost thirty years. In addition, there are an emergency unit, pediatric emergency unit, delivery unit, intensive care unit, and newborn unit with control rooms. There are medical gas systems in the form of oxygen, air and vacuum in each unit. A comprehensive recording is provided with 3 digital cameras and 1 microphone for each unit. In the control rooms, there is a single-sided glass and headphones that allow the instructors to monitor and listen to the units.


Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Simulation Center


KOÜSİM has been prepared in a virtual hospital setup in a closed area of 1151 square meters in the new outpatient clinic building of Kocaeli University Hospital. The center includes a three-bed emergency department, ambulance and accident/home environment, maternity ward and neonatal area, two-bed adult and two-bed pediatric wards, a clinical skills laboratory, a three-dimensional (3D) virtual anatomy classroom, a virtual reality (VR) room, and eight simulated student outpatient clinics, and basic skills lab. The staff of the center consists of an anesthesia specialist medical educator, a nurse instructor, a biomedical engineer, and an anesthesia technician. The center also features high-fidelity emergency patient and nursing simulators, pediatric simulators, childbirth simulators, and all the necessary medical devices and equipment for emergency departments, ambulances, and wards, as well as a wide variety of skill models. Another important infrastructure of the center is a comprehensive education software and recording system that supports various measurement and evaluation capabilities, with the ability to remotely control simulators, and the ability to record high-quality audio and video in all simulated environments. KOÜSİM offers a variety of training programs that span from the first year of medical education through graduation and into post-graduate studies. High-fidelity emergency service simulations for interns, pediatric resuscitation, neonatal resuscitation, advanced and basic life support training for interns, cardiac and respiratory examination practices, and simulation applications of basic medical skills specified in the National Core Education Program are included in our training programs. In addition, our center conducts objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE) and objective structured practical examinations (OSPE) preferred in pre-graduation medical education. Communication skills training sessions are conducted with simulated patients (SP). In addition, our center continues to offer courses organized by specialist physician associations as part of post-graduate medical education.


LabForSIMS


The simulation centre (LabForSIMS) was officially opened in the Paris Sud Medical School in 2012. LabForSIMS is now actively involved in almost all fields of simulation, including patient-healthcare provider relations, high-fidelity simulation and CRM, and in the development of serious games for many medical and non-medical specialties. LabForSIMS is included in the training curricula of more than 2000 students annually, and it has developed research activities with both technological (i.e. augmented reality) and educational aims.

The Center for Simulation and Practical Skills of the „George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology of Târgu Mureş was opened in October 2013. The building has 3 levels, with a total area of 797 m2 and 4 simulation rooms, two debriefing rooms, 8 standardized patient rooms, a command center and a modular course room. The center is structured in 4 departments - Basic Skills, Standardized Patient, Advanced Simulation, Virtual Simulation. Simulation management is done through specialized software platform. It allows students, teachers and administrators access in secure conditions. This platform allows simulation session scheduling, audio and video recording, support pre and post simulation testing, filling out feedback forms, and complex statistical analysis.

The Mono-profile Medical Simulation Centre is based at the University of Zielona Gora, Poland – Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and is dedicated for nursing students. We started in 2017 with public tenders and renovations of parts of the building. In January 2018 we organized the first basic courses in medical simulation methodology for nurses, who are presently teaching in our simulation centre. MCSM comprises one high fidelity lab with three patient simulators (adult, child and infant), a technical skills lab, a basic nursing skills lab, a debrief room, BLS and ALS training labs and two OSCE labs. Our team consists of 4 medical simulation instructors, 2 technicians and 8 educators trained in the methodology of medical simulation. In 2018 and the first quarter of 2019, we organized 12 courses: introduction to medical simulation, OSCE, and low and medium medical simulation. We have been teaching our students since February 2019. On daily basis, members of our team improve their skills by participating in conferences (SESAM 2017, Medical Education Forum in Krakow, International Conference organized by The Military Medical Training Centre in Lodz). We have also organized the first EXPO Medical Simulation Conference in Zielona Góra. It took place in 2018. This event will constantly be present in our annual calendar. We are looking forward to the next in December. MCSM is cooperating with The Military Medical Training Centre in Lodz, Collegium Medicum of UJ in Krakow, The Medical Simulation Centre in Gdansk, The Medical Simulation Centre in Poznan, and Simulation Centres in Kielce and Rzeszow. This year we are starting to organize the competitions for medical simulations.
